Corpus Christi Blue Ghosts

Beyond Whataburger Field's center field wall sits the USS Lexington, a retired World War II era aircraft carrier-turned museum, nicknamed the Blue Ghost. It has taught kids and adults alike about our nation’s history since it docked in Corpus Christi Bay as a museum in 1993. 2018 marked the 75th anniversary of its commissioning, and the Hooks wanted to honor the ship and those who served aboard.

Blue Ghosts Weekend honored the legacy of the USS Lexington, its former crew, and all veterans and current service members as a part of Military Appreciation Weekend. The highlight of the weekend was “Batting Practice on the Lex,” as several Hooks players launched home run balls off the bow of the ship and into Corpus Christi Bay.
